The Three Phases of Chiropractic Care (and Why Skipping Ahead Backfires)

New patients sometimes ask why they can’t just come in twice and be done. The honest answer is that most conditions move through three distinct phases, and skipping ahead usually means the results don’t hold.

Phase One: Relief and Stabilization

The early focus is calming pain and reducing muscle guarding, typically over two to six weeks with more frequent visits that taper as things improve. This phase is about making daily life tolerable again, not yet about fixing the underlying pattern.

Phase Two: Correction

Once acute pain settles, the plan shifts toward addressing the movement patterns and tissue restrictions that caused the problem in the first place. This is the phase people are most tempted to skip once they start feeling better, which is exactly why relief so often doesn’t last without it.

Phase Three: Wellness and Maintenance

Ongoing, lower-frequency care aimed at catching small restrictions before they become bigger problems again. Not everyone continues into this phase, but for patients dealing with recurring issues, it’s usually the difference between a permanent fix and a repeating cycle.
